Graffiti Spray-Painted On St. John’s Cathedral
A vandal spray-painted obscenities on the landmark St. John’s Cathedral in Spokane.
Police believe the words, which are visible to motorists driving south on Grand Boulevard, were painted by one person, said John Buenz, dean of the cathedral at 12th and Grand.
“It doesn’t have any of the usual gang markings,” Buenz said police told him after inspecting the graffiti. Parts of it are “pretty profane,” he said, and were obviously written by a person who is “rather disturbed.”
Church officials have tried to cover the most offensive words with paper and tape.
Still, the graffiti will be visible to the 300 to 350 people who will attend church today .
A masonry restoration company has been hired to remove the graffiti next week, Buenz said.
