House Of Memories The Coliseum (1954-1995)

The Spokane Coliseum opened in December, 1954 to rave reviews.

When it comes down next month to make room for the city’s new Veterans Memorial Arena, the region it served for four decades will have reason to pause.

The building in its glory was a star. Life magazine once cited the Coliseum for its “dazzling efficient modern equipment equalled by few other halls on earth.”

That was Life in Jan. 10, 1955.

Over time the glitter passed. The Boone Street Barn is wheezing its last.

Before it passes into history we look at some of the events it housed and the sports memories it spawned.

See staff writer Dan Weaver’s special report in today’s Sports section, C1.
