O’Meara Blows Chance To Gain

Mark O’Meara, on the verge of slamming the door on any would-be pursuers, squandered four shots over the last four holes at the Honda Classic in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.

As a result, O’Meara, seeking to end a three-year victory drought, will take only a three-stroke advantage over Nick Faldo - after leading by seven - into today’s final round at wind-raked Weston Hill.

Dottie Mochrie parred nine straight holes in Tucson, Ariz., before making birdie on No. 18 to finish with a 72, leaving her 6-under at 210 with a two-shot lead after 54 holes of the $450,000 Ping-Welch’s Championship.

Tracy Hanson of Rathdrum, Idaho, shot a 75 to put her in 11th place, six shots off the leader.

Defending champion Jim Albus fired eight birdies in a 7-under-65 second round during the Dominion Seniors tournament, leaving him at 8-under-136 going into the final round in San Antonio.
