Only Women Need Apply For Lottery Job

The state lottery is looking to fill a high-stakes job, but men need not apply.

The lottery director says he’s interviewing only women to announce Rhode Island Lottery numbers on television - for now, anyway.

Until last fall, men had announced the numbers, so lottery Director John Hawkins decided “it was time to give the ladies a chance.”

The American Civil Liberties Union says blocking men from the show is illegal. The group plans to file a complaint with the state’s human rights commission.
