Schneider Closing On Title
Switzerland’s Vreni Schneider won the sixth World Cup slalom title of her career and set herself up for the overall crown when she finished behind Pernilla Wiberg of Sweden in a thrilling race at Lenzerheide, Switzerland.
Wiberg was clocked 1 minute, 17.31 seconds for her first win in an injuryplagued season. Schneider was .37 seconds behind. Martina Ertl of Germany was third in 1:17.94.
Schneider’s performance vaulted her to 1,090 points at the top of the overall standings, pushing Germany’s Katja Seizinger down to second at 1,055. Heidi Zeller-Baehler of Switzerland dropped to third at 990.
