Joseph Jerue Cheney

Service for Joseph D. “Joe” Jerue, 67, will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Jerue’s Cheney Funeral Home. Burial will be at Spokane Memorial Gardens.

A longtime Cheney resident, he was born in Spokane. He died Friday.

He served in the Coast Guard during World War II on a mine sweeper and received his high school diploma in 1947. He attended Eastern Washington State College and received an associate of arts degree.

Mr. Jerue then attended San Francisco College of Mortuary Science and graduated in June 1950. He and his wife, Bobbye Jerue, returned to Cheney in 1950.

His grandfather, Joseph N. Jerue, founded Jerue Funeral Home in 1901 in Medical Lake. Mr. Jerue’s father, Darrell Jerue, founded Jerue Funeral Home in Cheney in the early 1920s.

Mr. Jerue became the owner of Jerue’s Cheney Funeral Home in 1959.

He was a member of the Washington State Funeral Directors Association, the National Funeral Directors Association, the United Church of Christ, Masonic Lodge 42 and the El Katif Shrine Temple. He was also a retired volunteer for the Cheney Fire Department.

He is survived by his wife of 44 years; three sons, Michael Jerue of Cheney, Terry Jerue of Medical Lake and Warren Jerue of Spokane; one daughter, Lynne Anderson of Garland, Texas; one brother, Larry Jerue of Belfair, Wash.; one grandson and two granddaughters.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Cheney Care Center.

Mary Hughes Spokane

No service will be held for Mary J. Hughes, 87, at her request. Private inurnment will be at Greenwood Memorial Park.

Mrs. Hughes, who died Sunday, was born in Des Moines, Iowa.

A homemaker, she had lived in Spokane since 1972.

Her husband, Arthur Hughes, died in 1986.

She is survived by one son, Arthur Hughes Jr. of Portland; two daughters, Marilyn Anderson and Olivia Williams, both of Nine Mile Falls; nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Sarah Olson Spokane

Memorial service for Sarah Hazel Olson, 99, is planned for 1:30 p.m. today at Rockwood Manor. Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-South is in charge of cremation. Inurnment will be at Greenwood Memorial Terrace.

Mrs. Olson died Wednesday.

She was born in Amsterdam, N.Y.

Mrs. Olson and her husband moved to Spokane in 1943.

A homemaker, she had worked as a schoolteacher.

Her husband, Christopher Olson, died in 1961.

She is survived by three nieces.

George Cameron Spokane

Service for George F. Cameron, 77, will be at 1 p.m. today at Riplinger Funeral Home. Cremation will follow.

Mr. Cameron died Thursday.

A lifetime Spokane resident, he had worked for Chevron Oil Co. for 29 years.

He was a member of the Brotherhood of Friends and the Moose, Elks and Eagles lodges.

His wife, Jean Cameron, died in 1979.

He is survived by two sons, Kelly Cameron of Spokane and Ron Cameron of Clarkston, Wash.; one sister, Kathleen Wilkins of Eureka, Calif.; and one grandson.

Wayne Cripe Spokane

Memorial service for Wayne M. Cripe, 89, will be at 10 a.m. today at Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home.

Mr. Cripe, owner of Cripes Cleaners, died Thursday.

He was born in Mount Zion, Ind.

He learned the dry cleaning business in Wallace, where he lived for 15 years before moving to Spokane in 1947. He retired in 1980.

Mr. Cripe was a member of the Valley Kiwanis, the Valley Chamber of Commerce and the Spokane Moose Lodge 161.

He is survived by one son, Randy Cripe of Yorba Linda, Calif.

Nellie Wogman Spokane

Private memorial service will be held for Nellie Wogman, 78.

Mrs. Wogman died Sunday.

She was born in Eureka, Mont.

Mrs. Wogman had lived in Spokane for 15 years and had worked for Columbia Paint.

She was also a homemaker and a member of the Order of Eastern Star.

She is survived by one brother, Dayle Graves of Walla Walla; four grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter.

Francesco ‘Slim’ Cordi Diamond Lake, Wash.

Memorial service for Francesco “Slim” Cordi, 76, will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Diamond Lake Fire Station. Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Cordi, Fire District 4 fire commissioner, died March 4 from injuries suffered in a Jan. 19 fall.

He was born in New York City.

Mr. Cordi graduated from high school in New York. He was a journeyman ironworker for more than 45 years and worked on numerous bridges, the U.S. Pavilion for Expo ‘74, the Alaska Pipeline and Grand Coulee Dam. He served in the Civilian Conservation Corps in St. Maries and in the Army during World War II.

He and his wife, Donna, lived in New York before moving to Diamond Lake in 1962.

He was elected fire commissioner in 1987. He was a member of the National Rifle Association.

His wife, Donna, died in 1993.

He is survived by one sister, Lucille Tinelli of New York; two daughters, Francesca Cordi of Atlanta and Jeanne Alford of Juneau, Alaska; three stepchildren, Nancy Carton of Seattle, Neil Newheart of Elk and Berneil Merritt of Eagle, Idaho; and 10 grandchildren.

Foy ‘Jack’ Trimble Farmington, Wash.

Service for Foy D. “Jack” Trimble, 72, is planned for 1 p.m. today at the Farmington Seventh-day Adventist Church. Burial will be at the Garfield (Wash.) Cemetery. Kramer Funeral Home of Tekoa, Wash., is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Trimble, who was born in Oakesdale, Wash., died Saturday at the Tekoa Care Center.

He graduated from Garfield High School in 1940. He worked in the naval shipyards in Portland and enlisted in the Navy in 1942.

After the war, he and his wife, Jennie Trimble, returned to Oakesdale. In 1947 he moved to Farmington and shortly after that he began farming with his brother-in-law.

He retired in 1993.

He was a member of the American Legion, the Farmington Volunteer Fire Department and the Whitman Farmer Co-op at Farmington.

Mr. Trimble is survived by his wife of 49 years; one son, James Trimble of Farmington; two sisters, Arlene Eich of Lacey, Wash., and Timmi McNeil of Tacoma, and two grandchildren.

Alfred ‘Red’ Hunt Deer Park

Service for Alfred Randall “Red” Hunt, 80, will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday at the Church of the Nazarene in Deer Park. Burial will be at Woodland Cemetery in Deer Park. Lauer Funeral Home of Deer Park is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Hunt, a longtime Deer Park resident, died Thursday.

He was born in Kamiah, Idaho.

He served in the Army during World War II and worked as the produce manager at Burgan’s Grocery Store in Deer Park in the late 1940s. He was a rural mail carrier in Deer Park beginning starting in the 1950s.

Mr. Hunt retired in 1975.

He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Florence Hunt; one stepson, Leroy Cline of Deer Park; one stepdaughter, Marian Arleen Espe of Spokane; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Floretta Austin Spokane

Service for Floretta F. Austin, 83, will be at 2:30 p.m. today at Spokane Valley Baptist Church. Hazen and Jaeger Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Austin died Friday.

She was born in Deer Park.

A former Wallace resident, she had lived at Holman Gardens Retirement for the past six years.

Her husband, Robert Austin, died in 1987.

She is survived by two daughters, Susan Breidenbach of Olympia and Julia Stewart of Kent, Wash.; one son, Bruce Austin of Newman Lake; one sister, Ella Thistle, and one brother, Alfred Herrick, both of Spokane; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Regina Dahlberg Spokane

Graveside service for Regina J. Dahlberg, 89, is planned for 1 p.m. today at Riverside Memorial Park. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Dahlberg died Saturday.

She was born in Troy, Idaho.

A 51-year Spokane resident, she had worked at Deaconess Medical Center as a dietician.

She is survived by one son, Kermith Dahlberg of Deary, Idaho; six daughters, Dorothy Morgan, Elizabeth Greer, Shirley McGee, Bonnie Miller and Marilyn Olson, all of Spokane, and Carolyn O’Brien of Columbia, S.C.; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Arlene Zimmer LaCrosse, Wash.

Rosary service for Arlene Zimmer, 65, is planned for 7 p.m. Wednesday at Bruning Funeral Home in Colfax, Wash. Funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in LaCrosse. Burial will follow at the LaCrosse Cemetery.

Mrs. Zimmer, a longtime LaCrosse resident, died Saturday in Puyallup, Wash., where she had lived for the past 6 years.

She was born in Wahpeton, N.D.

She moved to Colfax with her family in 1944. She and her husband lived on their farm near LaCrosse before they moved to Puyallup.

Mrs. Zimmer was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church and the Altar Society.

She is survived by her husband of 44 years, Fred Zimmer; four sons, Steve and Mike Zimmer, both of LaCrosse, Allan Zimmer of Beaverton, Ore., and Marc Zimmer of Moses Lake; two daughters, Julie Zimmer of Puyallup and Susan Zimmer of Portland; one sister, Gayle Dever of Seattle; one brother, Arthur Grawe of Portland; and nine grandchildren.

Frank Carlson Spokane

Memorial Services for Frank R. “Frosty” Carlson, 80, was Monday at Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home.

Mr. Carlson, who was born in Capitol, Mont., died Friday.

He was an equipment operator and was a member of the Operating Engineers Union Local 400.

Mr. Carlson, who served in the Army during World War II, was a member of the Disabled American Veterans. He had lived in Spokane for 16 years.

He is survived by his wife, Marie; one son, Jerry Carlson of Spokane; one daughter, Ann Roth of Prosser, Wash.; three sisters, Mary Huss and Edna Vaughn, both of Rapid City, S.D., and Tilda of Portland; and one granddaughter.

Harry Krogh Newport, Wash.

Service for Harry James Krogh, 52, was Friday at First Baptist Church in Newport.

Mr. Krogh died last Tuesday of a heart attack while driving toward Spokane on U.S. Highway 2.

Born in Spokane, he graduated from Newport High School. A farmer, he also built houses and helped construct the Russian Pavilion at Expo ‘74. He had worked for Pend Oreille County Mental Health for the past nine years.

Survivors include his wife of 30 years, Claudia; two daughters, Tina Metter of Seattle and Wendy Krogh of Vancouver, Wash.; two sons, Cody and Matthew Krogh, both of Spokane; and one brother, John Krogh, and one sister, Bonnie McDonald, both of Newport.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Pend Oreille Valley Association for Disabled Children or the Shriners Hospital for Crippled Children.

Frank Krauter Spokane

Rosary for Frank Krauter, 71, is planned for 7:30 p.m. today at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the church. Burial will follow at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Trentwood.

Mr. Krauter died Friday.

He was born in Lefor, N.D.

He had lived in Spokane for 40 years and was a retired cabinetmaker. He served in the Marines during World War II.

Mr. Krauter was a member of the Valley Eagles Lodge and the Knights of Columbus.

Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Carmella Krauter; one son, Dale Krauter of Seattle; three daughters, Cookie Yocom and Patty Spencer, both of Spokane, and Kay Bourdon of Seattle; two brothers, John Krauter of Spokane and Jim Krauter of California; four sisters, Rose Gordon of Spokane, and Helen Keene, Ann Peters and Clara Cecil, all of California; 13 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or the Monastery of St. Clair.

Frederick More Spokane

Memorial service for Frederick John More, 58, will be at 11:30 a.m. Thursday at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church. Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. More, a 30-year Spokane resident, died Wednesday.

He was born in Blue Earth, Minn.

Mr. More worked as a sales representative for a recreational vehicle company. He was a member of the North Hill Masonic Lodge, the Order of the Eastern Star and Our Savior’s Lutheran Church.

He is survived by his wife of 20 years, Kathleen More; four sons, Gerald Wellsandt, Marcus Wellsandt, Patrick More and Daniel More; two sisters, Gene Baade and Wilhemina Asmus; one brother, James More; two granddaughters and three grandsons.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Shriners Hospital for Crippled Children.

Dayton Mead Spokane

Memorial service for Dayton C. Mead, 73, is planned for 10 a.m. Wednesday at Riplinger Funeral Home.

Mr. Mead, who was born in Spokane, died Saturday.

He graduated from Lewis and Clark High School and was a postal carrier for 32 years.

Mr. Mead was a member of the Retired Postal Employees Association and was a World War II Army veteran.

He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Bonnie Mead; one son, Darrell Mead of San Diego; one daughter, Sydney Gomez of Albuquerque, N.M.; one sister, Barbara Charbonneau of Spokane; and three grandchildren.

Marion Menzies Pullman

Service for Marion St. John Menzies, 93, will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Good Samaritan Village Chapel in Moscow, Idaho. Burial will be at the Pullman City Cemetery. Kimball Funeral Home of Pullman is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Menzies died Friday.

She was born in Chicago.

Mrs. Menzies was a music teacher in California public schools and had worked for the newspaper in Coos Bay, Ore., before she moved to Pullman in 1978.

She was a member of the Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include one son, Ghery Pettit of Pullman; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
