Big Brothers, Sisters Hold Annual Banquet

The Big Brothers and Sisters of Spokane County had their annual banquet and named Kelley Bradley as Big Sister of the Year and Paul Taylor as Big Brother of the Year.

Bradley is an employee at Hewlett-Packard and has been matched to her Little Sister Debbie for almost 10 years. Taylor, who owns an insurance company, has been matched to his Little Brother Justin for nine years.

Ten Year Awards were given to: Heather Carlon, Charles Gurche, Sheryl Johnson, Mimi Wainwright, Terry Burton, Paul Page, and Kelly Bradley.

Five Year award recipients were: Karen Anderson, Tom Askman, Brian Brothers, Lisa Cowan, Don Ellis, Denese Freed, Lorin Hills, Tyrie Howard, Brian Jokela, Joe Korus, Colleen Lee, Skip Partridge, Gary Peck, Michelle Pereira, Pete Piper, Margaret Pongratz, LeDeane Stewart, Tracie Taylor and Karen Vaughn.

Michael Letson, son of Susan Stanaway of Spokane, is a sophomore at the University of Montana and has been selected to attend Sophia University in Tokyo for the 1995-96 academic year. Letson will be the only student from Montana studying at this world-renowned university. He is a member of the fraternity Phi Gamma Delta, president of the UM’s chapter of the national honor society Alpha Lambda Delta, and a 1993 graduate of Helena High School.

Michael Sheridan, a certified financial planner and branch manager for Titan Value Equities Group, Inc., was cited for outstanding service to investors and excellence in mutual fund sales. He has been a certified financial planner since 1984 and an investment representative since 1981.

David Baker, Spokane, has been selected to appear in the 1995-96 National Directory of Who’s Who in Executives & Professionals. He is a Certified Financial Planner at Baker & Associates.

Dozens of volunteers and supporters who helped build the Spokane Food Bank’s new offices were honored at a Recognition Celebration recently. The event took place in the Community Project Room at the Spokane Food Bank.

Those honored included volunteers from the local construction crafts labor apprenticeship programs, the Spokane Service Team, Spokane Community College’s sheet metal class, volunteers from Safeco Insurance Co., Kaiser-Mead and Bob Singer, who helped coordinate the project.
