Developer Seeks Annexation For Liberty Lake-Area Project

A landowner seeking annexation of 310 acres to the Liberty Lake Sewer District has plans for residential and commercial development on the property.

George Kennett, of Newport, has owned the farmland, which is just east of Simpson Road and south of Interstate 90, since 1952.

Although the property is zoned for light industrial use, Kennett hopes to eventually obtain a zone change so he can develop houses there.

He said he plans to build up to 500 houses on 200 acres. The remaining property would be used for commercial development.

Meanwhile, he said he wants to obtain sewer service for the land.

A public hearing on the proposed annexation is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. today at Liberty Lake Community Church, East 8th and South Garry Road.

Lee Mellish, sewer district manager, said that the district’s board of commissioners will examine whether the district would be able to serve Kennett’s property in addition to its current customers.
