Duane Perrigo Spokane

Memorial service for Duane L. Perrigo, 60, will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-South. Private inurnment will be at a later date at Valley View Cemetery in Soap Lake, Wash.

Mr. Perrigo died Saturday at home. He was born in Kirkland, Wash.

He worked on the family dairy farm in Carnation, Wash., and graduated from high school in 1953. He was a Korean War veteran and served for 20 years with the Air Force, retiring in 1974. He had lived in Spokane for 23 years.

He was a member of American Legion, Post No. 72.

He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Donna Perrigo; three sons, David Perrigo of Bellevue, Wash., Daniel Perrigo of Beaverton, Ore., and Darrin Perrigo of Spokane; one daughter, Debra FitzGerald of St. John, Wash.; his mother, Margaret Perrigo of Cheney; one brother, Alfred Perrigo of Redmond, Wash.; and three grandchildren.

Marjorie Edwards Spirit Lake, Idaho

Memorial service for Marjorie Evelyn Edwards will begin at 11 a.m. today at Spirit Lake Presbyterian Church. English Funeral Chapel, Coeur d’Alene, is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Edwards, 80, died Tuesday in Spirit Lake.

Born in Spokane, she graduated from North Central High School and attended Kinman Business School for two years.

In 1935 she married Weldon Edwards in Spokane. He died in 1979.

She had lived 20 years in Vancouver, Wash., and Bremerton before moving to Spirit Lake 14 years ago. She’d worked in title offices before retiring in 1981.

Survivors include one daughter Laurene Clary of Spirit Lake; three grandchildren, Christi Craner, Rex Clary and Rich Clary; and two greatgrandchildren, Jason Craner and Christopher Clary.

Sister Ella Mae Payton Spokane

Funeral Mass for Sister Ella Mae Payton, S.N.J.M., 88, will be at 10 a.m. today at Convent of the Holy Names. Burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Sister Payton died Wednesday. She was born in Spokane and graduated from North Central High School.

She worked for Pacific Northwest Bell for 30 years in Spokane and Seattle.

She entered the Holy Names Novitiate in Marylhurst, Ore., in 1957. She was a seamstress and contributed to the annual Autumn Bazaars. She retired in 1984.

She is survived by one sister, Ruth Radford of Sacramento, Calif.

Howard Behnke Clearwater, Fla.

Service will be held later in Portage, Wisc., for Howard Behnke, 81, who died Wednesday in Clearwater.

Mr. Behnke and his wife of 58 years, Martha, had summered for about a month each year in Coeur d’Alene for the past 30 years.

He was born in Madison, Wisc., and served in the Army. He was a semitruck driver for the Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul and Pacific Railroad Co.

He is survived by his wife at home; one sister, June Epstein of Coeur d’Alene; and two brothers, Donald Behnke of Portage, Wis., and Russell Behnke of Chippewa Falls, Wis.

Teresa Baker Coeur d’Alene

Mass for Teresa Anne Baker, 84, will begin at 10 a.m. today at St. Thomas Catholic Church, Coeur d’Alene. English Funeral Chapel, Coeur d’Alene, is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Baker died Tuesday at Pinewood Care Center in Coeur d’Alene. She was born in St. Paul, Minnesota.

She graduated in Coeur d’Alene in 1927 and worked as a clerk at the Kootenai County Courthouse.

In 1930 she married Neal Baker in Kellogg. He died in 1984.

She served as a grand regional for the Catholic Daughters and was a member of the Kootenai County Humane Society.

Survivors include one son, Robert Baker of Coeur d’Alene; three daughters, Mary Smith of Coeur d’Alene, Betty Carter of Sacramento, Calif., and Patricia Thomas of Tempe, Ariz.; 15 grandchildren, 21 greatgrandchildren and one great-greatgrandchild.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Kootenai County Humane Society in Hayden.

Leona Stanley Spokane

Memorial service for Leona M. Stanley, 79, is set for 5 p.m. Sunday at Calvary Chapel. Burial will be in Ione, Wash. Thornhill Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Stanley, who died March 9, was born in West Branch, Mich. A homemaker, she moved to Spokane from Ione in 1955.

Her first husband George Basnaw, preceded her in death. She is survived by four sons, George Basnaw of Ione, Joe Basnaw of Hauser Lake, Idaho, Walter Basnaw of Darby, Mont., and Wyatt Stanley of Spokane; two daughters, Barbara Sample of Rockford and Leeann Conte of Spokane; one sister, Cleara Marsh of Phoenix, Ariz.; 19 grandchildren and many stepgrandchildren and greatgrandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Spokane or the American Diabetes Association.

Jack Bell Spokane

Memorial service for Jack Edward Bell, 50, will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at Friends Church. Hazen and Jaeger Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Bell, who was born in Coeur d’Alene, died March 8.

He was a longtime resident of Spokane and Coeur d’Alene.

Survivors include three brothers, Earl Bell of Hayden Lake, Idaho, Harold Bell of Elk City, Idaho, and Hubert Bell of Anniston, Ala.; one sister, Peggy Hiatt of Charlotte, N.C.

Harold Phillips Spokane

No service will be held for Harold Van Kleek Phillips, 74, at his request.

Mr. Phillips died March 9. He was born in Tensed, Idaho.

He graduated from high school in Cheney and served in the Air Force during World War II. He attended Washington State University for two years.

Mr. Phillips had lived in Spokane for 55 years and worked at Weisfield’s Jewelers and as a supply clerk for the Department of Agriculture.

He is survived by three sisters, Nora Mastel of Portland, Pearl Cornwell of Quincy, Wash., and Loretta Olson of Coeur d’Alene; and two brothers, Arthur and Frank Phillips, both of Spokane.

George Steiner Sprague, Wash.

Memorial service for George Steiner, 78, is planned for 11 a.m. Saturday at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Sprague. Danekas Funeral Home in Ritzville, Wash., is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Steiner, who was born in Payette, Idaho, died Tuesday in Spokane.

He was a mechanic and tested airplane engines at Galena Army Air Depot before serving in the Army.

Mr. Steiner worked as a mechanic and truck driver, was chief of police in Sprague and worked for Burns Detective Agency. He also farmed in Sprague before retiring in 1976.

Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Tessie Steiner of Sprague; three sons, Frank Steiner of Cheney, John “Bo” Steiner of McMinnville, Ore., and Danny Steiner of Renton, Wash.; one brother, Verl Steiner and one sister, Reva Reed, both of Clarkston, Wash.; five grandchildren and three greatgrandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. John’s Lutheran Church.

Clarence Mitchel Spokane

Memorial service for Clarence L. “Mitch” Mitchel, 80, is set for 11 a.m. Saturday at Riplinger Funeral Home.

Mr. Mitchel, a 64-year Spokane resident, died Tuesday. He was born in Ansley, Neb.

He was an electrician and a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. He was an World War II Army veteran.

He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Helen; three daughters, Molly Pearson of Deer Park, and Sally Gregorson and Patty Cameron, both of Spokane; one sister, Florence Simmons of Sheridan, Wyo.; one brother, Donald Mitchel of Spokane; and eight grandchildren.

George Pugh Fruitland, Wash.

Service for George G. Pugh, 80, will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Hunters (Wash.) Presbyterian Church. Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery in Hunters. Strate Funeral Home in Davenport, Wash., is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Pugh, a farmer and rancher, died Sunday. He was born in Stratford, Wash.

He raised registered polled Herefords. He was a member of the Enterprise Grange, the Stevens County Cattlemans Association, the Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service and the Soil Conservation Board.

His wife, Estrid, died in 1988. He is survived by one daughter, Sandra Hughes of Port Orchard, Wash.; three brothers, Floyd Pugh of Tacoma, and Ivan and Francis Pugh, both of Enumclaw, Wash.; one half-sister, Matilda Baldwin of Puyallup, Wash.; and two grandchildren.

Danny Dempsey Spokane

Private service will be held for Danny S. Dempsey, 40. Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-South is in charge of cremation.

Mr. Dempsey died Wednesday in Ronan, Mont., where he had lived for the past year. He was born in Spokane.

He graduated from Ferris High School in 1973 and had worked at Kaiser Aluminum as a quality inspector for 10 years.

He was a member of Steelworkers Union No. 338 and the Sioux Tribe of Indians in South Dakota.

He is survived by his wife of five years, Fiona Dempsey; four children, including Sam and DeAnne, and their mother, Cindy Dempsey, all of Spokane, and Jade and Sierra, both of Ronan; his parents, John and Bertha Dempsey of Spokane; three brothers, Michael Dempsey of Ronan, Steve Dempsey of Arlee, Mont., and Jim Dempsey of Evaro, Mont.; and one sister, Janine Taggart of Seattle.

Marie Sharon Coeur d’Alene

Service for Marie Sharon, 90, will begin 11 a.m. Saturday at English Funeral Chapel, Coeur d’Alene. Burial will be at Paradise Cemetery, Paradise, Calif.

Mrs. Sharon died Tuesday at Sunset Terrace Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Coeur d’Alene. She was born in Russia.

She was a homemaker and married Sherman Sharon in 1923 in Fort Collins, Colo. He preceded her in death. She lived in Paradise, Calif., for 25 years and then moved to Coeur d’Alene to be closer to her family.

Survivors include three sons, Sherman E. Sharon of Fairfield, Calif., Alfred F. Sharon of Coeur d’Alene and Albert Sharon of Post Falls; 10 grandchildren, eight greatgrandchildren and two great-greatgrandchildren.

Lou Becco Spokane

Memorial service for Lou Becco, 79, is planned for 11 a.m. Tuesday at Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home.

Mr. Becco, a 15-year Spokane resident, died Tuesday.

He had lived in Las Vegas, Nev., for 24 years and was a culinary union chef for 30 years. He served with the Merchant Marines during World War II.

He is survived by his wife of 29 years, Goldie Becco; five daughters, Donna Dunigan of Las Vegas, Barbara Banuet of Escondido, Calif., Terrie Cruz of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Kathy O’Farrel of Fort Thomas, Ky., and Julie Frank of Calif.; one son, Roger Becco of California; 11 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Robert Herron Spokane

Service for Robert R. “Duke” Herron, 82, is set for 2 p.m. Saturday at Riplinger Funeral Home. Burial will be at Fairmount Memorial Park.

Mr. Herron, who was born in Kahlotus, Wash., died Tuesday. He graduated from Pullman High School and Washington State University.

He had worked for Standard Oil Co., the Department of Agriculture, Department of Labor’s Wage and Hour Division, and Alcoa Co., and retired as personnel relations and safety director from Kaiser Aluminum. He had lived in Spokane for more than 52 years.

He owned and managed The Bel Air Motel from 1959 to 1969 and was a member of Linwood Seventh-day Adventist Church.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Signa; one son, Jerry Herron of Seattle; and one brother, Ben Herron of Sidney, Mont.
