‘Huck Finn’ Pulled From Curriculum

Compiled From Wire Services

“The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn” has been pulled from a school’s eighth-grade curriculum because some students and parents found it offensive.

Superintendent of Schools Reginald Mayo removed the book from the curriculum at West Hills Middle School on Thursday.

Mayo said the frequent use of the word “nigger” in the book was inciting racial tensions at the school and dividing parents along racial lines.

“I won’t let this school be torn apart. This is not censorship. It’s a curriculum issue,” Mayo said.
