Senator Charged In Phone Tapping
The state Senate majority leader was charged Friday with paying two men to bug the phone of his ex-wife, a high-ranking state official.
H. Truman Chafin intended to use the information “in connection with his pending divorce proceedings,” the federal indictment said.
His ex-wife, state Health and Human Resources Secretary Gretchen Lewis, declined to comment.
The couple has been involved in a bitter custody dispute over their young daughter.
