Corbin Art Center Adds Workshops To Its Lineup

Spring quarter classes and workshops at the Corbin Art Center, 507 W. Seventh Ave., begin April 10. The art center, located inside the Corbin Mansion, has added some workshops to its class roster. These include:

“Painting with Colored Pencil Workshop” lead by nationally published artist Shelly Stewart, Saturday, May 6.

“Creative Writing for Children” taught by Shirley Erlandsen, Saturday, April 22.

“Introduction to Fimo Clay Workshop” on Saturday, April 22, conducted by Cassandra Johnson. A second workshop titled “Advance Fimo Clay Techniques” will follow on May 13.

Auditions

The Spokane Civic Theatre is holding auditions for the spring production of “Kiss Me Kate,” a Cole Porter musical based on Shakespeare’s “Taming of the Shrew,” on Monday and Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Cavanaugh’s Inn at the Park.

Three women and 12 men as well as chorus members are needed. Those auditioning must prepare a 1-minute song. A pianist will be on hand to accompany, so bring sheet music. No a cappella. Also, bring dance gear.

Songwriters showcase

Chili D’s, a tavern at 152 S. Browne, will be hosting its semiannual Songwriters Showcase on March 26.

Twenty regional artists will be competing in two categories (country/folk and jazz/pop/ alternative/classical), live and on stage, for over $1,400 in prizes.

The showcase begins at 4 p.m. The cost is $6.

Corbin workshops

Stan Miller will lead a workshop titled “Using Egg Tempera in Watercolor” Friday and Saturday at the Corbin Art Center. Classes last from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. both days. The cost is $85. Pre-registration is required. For information, call 625-6677.

Ned Mueller will conduct a “Portrait and Landscape Workshop at the Corbin Art Center” on Monday and Tuesday, April 24-25. The fee for the two-day workshop is $79. Call 625-6677.

Poetry workshop

The screening deadline for the University of Idaho’s poetry writing workshop will be Monday, April 3, at 5 p.m.

The workshop, to be taught by LiYoung Lee (this year’s winner of the Academy of American Poets’ Lavan Younger Poet Award), has room for 15 writers.

Submissions are limited to a maximum of 10 pages, and must be sent to the University of Idaho, English Department, Moscow, ID 83843 .

Wanted: Artists

The Centrum Artist Residency Program in Port Townsend, Wash., is accepting applications from writers, visual artists, composers and choreographers for fully subsidized one-month residencies. Chairs as art

“Please be Seated: A Charity Auction” is scheduled for next October by the Lewis-Clark Center for Arts & History in Lewiston.
