Drivers Think They Are Above Average

Compiled From Wire Services

Motorists are quick to blow their own horns when it comes to describing their skill behind the wheel, and men have a more exalted opinion than women of their driving proficiency.

Seven in 10 motorists consider themselves better drivers than most other drivers on the road, according to a poll released Saturday.

The survey of 806 randomly selected adults found:

50 percent of men rated their driving ability as “excellent,” compared to 34 percent of women.

80 percent of men considered themselves “better than most” other drivers, compared to 61 percent of women.

36 percent reported that they usually drive above the speed limit.

70 percent said they always wear their seat belt when they’re in the front seat.

The survey, taken by the Gallup Organization for U.S. News & World Report and CNN, had an error margin of 4 percentage points.
