Council On The Road For Weekly Meeting

The Spokane City Council takes its show on the road tonight, traveling to the East Central Community Center to hear a report on the neighborhood’s status.

The briefing starts at 5:30 p.m. at the community center, 500 S. Stone. The meeting begins at 6 p.m.

Council members will consider vacating the alley between First and Sprague avenues, from Lee to Crestline streets, to make way for expansion of the Community Mental Health Center.

Health center officials last week asked the council to consider waiving the $6,009 vacation fee because the facility is a non-profit organization.

The measure needed at least four votes to pass, and the council tied. Two council members were absent and Mayor Geraghty excused himself because he recently served on the health center’s board.

The council also will consider asking the state Boundary Review Board to allow the city to extend water service to 105 acres on Five Mile Prairie.

The development, known as Jesse’s Bluff, is on the northeast corner of Five Mile and Johansen roads.
