Compiled From Wire Services

Loren Roberts turned back golf’s strongest field of the year Sunday, shooting a 1-under-par 71 to win the Nestle Invitational for the second straight year at Orlando, Fal.

The victory was against the top 24 players in the Sony World rankings. He won this storm-disrupted event on Arnold Palmer’s Bay Hill Club with a 272 total. That makes him 29-under for his last two starts in this tournament.

The group at 278 included England’s Nick Faldo, Jesper Parnevik of Sweden, Jay Haas, Mark McCumber, Bob Lohr and Duffy Waldorf, who had a string of six consecutive birdies in his 65.

At Costa Mesa, Calif., George Archer’s 25-foot birdie putt at the 17th hole proved to be the winner as he shot a 6-under-par 64 in the final round of the inaugural Toshiba Senior Classic.

At Phoenix, Laura Davies outlasted Beth Daniel in a head-to-head pairing to win her second straight LPGA Standard Register-Ping championship with a total of 12-under-par 280.
