Boy Finds $1,000 Lottery Ticket In Trash

Associated Press

A 12-year-old Ashland boy’s habit of rummaging through a convenience store’s garbage bin paid off when he discovered a scratch-off lottery ticket worth $1,000.

Ryan Wiles said he searches for old lottery tickets almost every day in the trash bin near his house.

Last summer, he found a Bingo scratch-off ticket worth $40.

But last week’s discovery of the winning Money Game ticket is big money to the Ashland Middle School sixth-grader.

“I’m the most popular kid in my school. I have people coming up to me saying, ‘Hey, we’re best friends, right?”’ he said.

Ryan plans to spend about $100 and deposit the rest in a bank to collect interest.
