Brother Held In Killing, Rape

When Steven Pfiel was charged with killing a 13-yearold girl, his family insisted he was innocent, paid $100,000 to bail him out of jail and moved to avoid angry neighbors.

Pfiel, 18, was back in court Monday - this time charged with murdering his brother and raping his sister. And this time, a Will County judge refused to set bail.

The coroner said Roger Pfiel, 19, died of multiple stab wounds and blows to the head. Authorities said Pfiel raped his sister after killing his brother.

The sheriff’s department said Steven Pfiel has confessed to the killing. The motive is not known.

The tragedies began on July 14, 1993 - the night Pfiel and Hillary Norskog left a picnic area together. Three days later, police found the girl’s body in a vacant lot. She had been stabbed 13 times.

In October 1993, the Pfiels, who then lived in the Chicago suburb of Palos Park, got their son out of jail by posting 10 percent, or $100,000, of his $1 million bail.

The Pfiels quietly moved to an area near the south Chicago suburb of Crete.
