Associated Press

NIT

Andre Woolridge hit a jumper with 20 seconds left as Iowa held off Ohio University 66-62 Tuesday night in Iowa City to advance to the quarterfinals.

Chris Kingsbury led the Hawkeyes with 19 points and became the highest-scoring sophomore in Iowa history with 539 points, topping the mark Greg Stokes set in 1983.

The Bobcats, led by Gary Trent’s 18 points, stormed back from a 14-point halftime deficit and trailed 63-62 after Ed Sears’ layup with 51.9 seconds to play. That set up Woolridge’s winner.

Penn State 65, Nebraska 59

Last season’s only undefeated college football schools met on the basketball court, with the Nittany Lions victorious.

Penn State fans were upset when Nebraska won the national championship in football, but the Nittany Lions said that wasn’t a motivating factor for Tuesday’s game in Lincoln, Neb.

What did mean something to Penn State were newspaper articles in which Nebraska guard Jaron Boone said he was looking forward to playing Iowa in the third round and matching up with his former roommate Andre Woolridge, who transferred from Nebraska.

“They seemed to be looking ahead at Iowa,” center John Amaechi said. “Frankly, I was a little annoyed.”

It also peeved forward Rashaan Carlton, who had a season-high 19 points.
