Wv Works Vikings, 9-5

Gabrielle McClintock went 4 for 4 and Darcy Sohns struck out 14 Tuesday as visiting West Valley (1-2) defeated Coeur d’Alene 9-5 in a nonleague fastpitch softball game.

McClintock had a two-run double during the Eagles’ six-run fifth. The Vikings (1-2) issued six walks and made two errors in the fifth.

Baseball: At Clarkston, Gil Pierce hit a solo homer in the third and a three-run homer in the fourth as Moscow (1-0) defeated Pullman 11-0 in a non-league game.

Eric Kiblen and Pierce had backto-back homers during the Bears’ sixrun third. Nate Colbert and Mike Stodick struck out a combined 10 Greyhounds in six innings. Pullman is 0-1.

Trevor Harelson scored three firsthalf goals Tuesday to lead visiting Cheney over West Valley 5-0 and give the Blackhawks (2-0) an early lead on the field in Frontier League boys soccer.

Mike Kisslinger had two assists and one goal for Cheney, which scored twice off set plays. Cheney goalkeeper Rod Just had seven saves. WV is 0-1-1.

At Colville, Clint Burgess snapped a scoreless tie with a goal at 54 minutes, then added another less than 4 minutes later to lead East Valley (1-0-1) to a 4-0 win over the Indians (0-2).

Tory Swenson and Shawn Cecil added insurance goals for the Knights, who had a 25-12 shots-ongoal edge.

Ryan Baker scored twice and Chris Koesel had one goal and two assists to lead Riverside/Deer Park (1-1) to a 5-1 win over visiting Clarkston (0-1).

Hawaii-Hilo 4, WSU 3

At Hilo, Hawaii, the Hawaii-Hilo Vulcans made an early lead stand up, holding off a late-innings charge by Washington State to hand the Cougars a 4-3 loss at Vulcan Stadium in the first game of a twi-light double header. Results of the second game were not available at press time.

Eric Estes (0-3) went the distance for the Cougars, scattering 10 hits while allowing four runs, all in the first four innings. He also walked two batters and struck out two. WSU is 5-12.
