Canadian Rower Fails Test

Associated Press

Silken Laumann, a Canadian gold medalist in rowing, tested positive for ephedrine, a banned substance, at the Pan Am Games.

Laumann, one of Canada’s premier athletes, failed the test on Sunday, said a games official.

Laumann won gold medals in single sculls and quadruple sculls. Both will be taken away.

On the field, Debbie Doom of Pasadena, Calif., threw the third perfect game of her Pan Am softball career. The U.S. women concluded the round-robin portion with an 11-0 win over Argentina.

The collection of CBA players representing the United States in basketball outlasted Uruguay 104-96 in overtime to improve to 2-2. That assured the U.S. team a spot in the medals round.
