Deadline Nears For Applications To Join Spokane Police

From Staff Reports

Spokane police hopefuls have two more days to submit applications before Friday’s recruitment deadline.

The Civil Service application period for the job opened two weeks ago, but so far 450 people have applied, officials said. Last year, about 1,000 applications were submitted during the same recruitment period.

Successful applicants will join the September police academy and be paid a starting salary of $26,900.

Applicants must be 21 by Sept. 6, pass a physical examination, and have a valid driver’s license. At least 45 quarter or 30 semester credit hours of education from an accredited college or university also are required. The credits must include five quarters or three semesters of college English.

Those interested in becoming a police officer should complete an application, which can be picked up at the Civil Service Office on the fourth floor of City Hall. The completed form must be returned to the same office by 5 p.m. Friday.
