Early News Release Botches Raid

Associated Press

Federal agents were ready to raid a public housing complex Wednesday but then called it off. Someone had noticed the news was already out - in broadcast reports based on a city news release.

The operation was aimed at gangs and criminal activity in public housing developments and was to include agents from several agencies, including the Drug Enforcement Agency and the Secret Service.

But the project was canceled after it was included in a news release issued Tuesday night by the District of Columbia’s Department of Public and Assisted Housing.
