Hawks, Miners Expect Success In Baseball Races
Two North Idaho high school baseball teams could have the ingredients for state championships.
For Lakeland, a state crown wouldn’t be new. The Hawks captured gold two years ago and, with a nucleus from that team, slipped to fourth last year.
Lakeland is gearing up for another run at a state title. The Hawks feature one of the top pitchers in the Panhandle in junior left-hander Brett DeBoer, who had a 9-3 record last year. He struck out 72 in 65 innings while posting a 3.00 ERA.
Moscow and St. Maries are hoping to challenge Lakeland in the Intermountain League, which receives two berths to state.
The other area team that could capture a state title is Wallace. The Miners return practically everybody from last year’s fourth-place State A-3 team.
The State A-2 Tournament will be at Northwest
Nazarene College in Nampa on May 25-27, while the State A-3 Tournament will be the same weekend at Treasure Valley Community College in Ontario, Ore.
