Baboon ‘Rescue’ Sparks Fire, Outage

Compiled From Wire Services

A mother baboon who flung herself on electric cables in an attempt to rescue her baby started a brush fire and cut power to an area northeast of Cape Town.

A witness said the baby baboon became trapped in an electric substation. The mother leaped onto some cables and caught fire, then fell into brush and set it on fire.

The fire spread up a mountain and power to the area near Paarl, 30 miles from Cape Town, was out most of Wednesday.
