Buchanan: Fly Confederate Flag

Compiled From Wire Services

Republican presidential candidate Pat Buchanan gave his support Thursday to those who are fighting to keep the Confederate battle flag atop the South Carolina Statehouse.

“To me, the Confederate flag represents valor, honor, courage and the willingness to die for your country,” Buchanan, a member of the Sons of Confederate Veterans, said. “I think it should stay right where it is.”

Supporters say the flag is an important part of the region’s heritage and honors those who fought in the Civil War. But opponents see it as a reminder of slavery.

Buchanan also said he supports The Citadel, the state military college, in its attempt to keep a woman from becoming a cadet.
