Service Area Limited For Tribal Clinic

From Staff And Wire Reports

The Coeur d’Alene Tribe’s Benewah Medical Center announced Friday that it will limit its services to patients from 10 nearby zip codes.

The change, effective March 27, will not affect existing patients, members of their households or eligible Native American beneficiaries.

“This facility is still growing after 57 straight months of growth,” said medical center director Gary Leva. “We are thrilled with our progress, but the facility can only handle so many staff and patients.”

The tribal clinic is unique in that it serves both Indian and non-Indian patients. That won’t change.

Under the new rules, patients must live in the following zip codes: 83876 (Worley area), 83851 (Plummer area), 83824 (DeSmet area), 83870 (Tensed area), 99012 (Fairfield, Wash. area), 99030 (Rockford, Wash. area), 99018 (Latah, Wash., area), 99033 (Tekoa, Wash., area), 99170 (Rosalia, Wash., area) and 99158 (Oakesdale, Wash., area).
