Man Sentenced For Raping Child, Leaving Her Tied To Tree

From Staff And Wire Reports

A Sumner man has been sentenced to nearly 67 years in prison for kidnapping and raping his friend’s 13-year-old daughter, and leaving her tied to a tree.

“What you did was as heinous abuse of a child I have ever heard of, short of murder,” King County Superior Court Judge Arthur Piehler said Friday in sentencing John H. Lewis, 35.

A jury convicted Lewis on two counts of rape and one count of kidnapping in the attack last July.

Lewis lured the girl into his pickup by telling her that her father - who was living with Lewis - was stranded and needed their help. He raped her twice and then lashed her to a tree near Auburn. She later escaped.
