Marine Dies When Jet Slams Into Mountain

Compiled From Wire Services

A Marine Corps fighter jet slammed into a mountain during training, killing the pilot, authorities said Saturday.

Capt. David Bowser, 30, of Pittsburgh was killed Friday when his FA-18 fighter hit a peak in the Desatoya Range about 100 miles east of Reno, said Anne McMillin, spokeswoman for Fallon Naval Air Station. Bowser was flying alone.

The wreckage was scattered over a large area of the rugged range near Cold Springs. Navy and Marine officials were investigating.
