Firefighters Hurt In Chemical Blaze

Compiled From Wire Services

Sixteen firefighters suffered minor injuries and smoke inhalation battling a chemical fire that was still smoldering Sunday, nearly a day after it started.

A chemical called sodium persulfate apparently irritated the respiratory passages of many of the firefighters. It was among chemicals inside the trucking company warehouse, Fire Department Lt. Gary Mullay said.

A miniature train exhibition nearby at Fairleigh Dickinson University’s Teaneck-Hackensack campus was evacuated Saturday, along with 10-14 apartments.
