City Council Approves Stiffer Manufactured Home Regulations

New, stiffer regulations for manufactured housing won the approval of the Spokane City Council this week.

The tighter regulations say new units can’t be more than 10 years old, must have at least 864 square feet of living space and must be skirted.

Manufactured homes are allowed with a special permit in three small areas within the city - including parts of the Hillyard, Latah Creek and Indian Trail neighborhoods.

About two years ago, Hillyard residents complained to the council that lax standards for manufactured homes were causing problems in their neighborhood.

The city placed a moratorium on siting new manufactured housing in these areas until new standards could be set.
