Basketball Tourney Results Noted By Special Olympics

The Washington Special Olympics State Basketball Tournament took place March 18-19 at Eastern Washington State University in Cheney. The tournament featured 610 athletes ranging in age from 8 to 58 on 77 teams. Following are the results for local participants:

Lewis & Clark took silver in the Masters Division 1, while West Valley No. 4 took the bronze in Masters Division 2.

In Masters Division 3, Community Colleges of Spokane took the gold, while West Valley No. 5 took the bronze.

In Masters Division 5, Mead Pride No. 1 took the Gold and Spokane Blue Devils No. 2 took the bronze. West Valley Eagles No. 3 took silver and Spokane Blue Devils No. 3 took fourth in Masters Division 6.

In Masters Division 7, Spokane Blue Devils No. 4 took bronze, while West Valley Eagles No. 2 took fifth. In Senior/Junior - Unified, Lewis & Clark Unified took gold.

In Seniors Division 2, Cheney Blackhawks took silver. In Seniors Division 3, Lewis & Clark Sr. took gold, while Medical Lake Maroon took fourth.

In Junior Division 2, Glover Blue took gold.

In Masters - Team Skills, West Valley Eagles No. 1 took bronze; in Seniors - Team Skills, Medical Lake White took silver, and in Juniors - Team Skills, Glover Gold took silver.

In Individual Skills Competition, Danny Wheeler, of Tri-City Suns Juniors, earned a silver in the Male Junior, Division 1. In Male Junior, Division 2, Victor Faulds II, also of the Tri-City Suns Juniors, earned the gold.

In Male Senior, Division 1, Jeremy Hylton, Tri-City Suns Juniors, earned a bronze. In Male Senior, Division 2 (Wheelchair), K.C. Chapman, Shadle Park, earned a silver.

In Male Senior/Master No. 1, Robert Hudspeth, Tri-City Suns, earned a bronze, while Chris Bird, also of Tri-City Suns, earned fourth.

In Female Senior, Division 1, Melanie Johnson, Tri-City Suns, earned a bronze.

Five Gonzaga Preparatory School seniors were recently named finalists by the National Merit Scholarship Program.

They are: Vanessa Erickson, Meredith Giesa, Daniel Meyers, Stephen Steigleder, and Sarah Stucky.

Scott Eaton, son of Mike and Kathy Eaton, Spokane, has received the J. Rich Steers Award for outstanding performance in the engineering program and potential military service to the country. He is a 1991 graduate of Gonzaga Preparatory School, and a senior at Princeton University.
