Give Your Walls Some Animal Appeal

While it seems cows and geese hog the country decor spotlight, other animals are just offstage and ready to be trotted out. Dogs, chickens and fish are among the animals included in the design repertoire of Motif Designs, a company that makes wallpaper with animal as well as floral patterns.

Dog lovers should ask for “Puppy Love,” which is available in black and white as well as navy, taupe and hunter on a cream background.

The chickens and fish are meant for kitchen use, but innovative decorators will probably want to take them elsewhere in the house, too. They’re named “Catch of the Day” and “Fowl Play.”

For information about local availability of these wall coverings, call (800) 431-2424.

Help with homes: Northwest Regional Facilitators, a local non-profit organization that helps provide affordable housing for low- and moderate-income residents, is looking for people to participate in a building group in Spokane as well as starting groups in Lincoln and Stevens counties later this year.

Participants who qualify can earn a down payment by helping construct their own home. No construction experience is necessary. For more information, call 484-6733.

Back to school: Only a couple of workshops remain before the Master Gardeners series is over and it’s time to head for the garden.

Pay Haye will talk about container gardening at 7 p.m. April 13; Sue Waibel will talk about bulbs for all seasons on April 27. Both talks begin at 7 p.m. at the Spokane County Agriculture Center, 222 N. Havana. Fee is $5 at the door and preregistration is recommended; call 533-2048.

Sessions on perennials will run April 15 from 10 a.m. to noon and 1 to 3 p.m. April 15 ($5 each, preregistration recommended).
