Padres Finally Defeat Mariners

Associated Press

It took 14 games and nearly two spring training camps but the San Diego Padres finally beat the Seattle Mariners in exhibition baseball.

Second baseman Billy Hall scored two runs and drove in another to lead the Padres to a 12-6 victory Thursday at Peoria Stadium, which serves as the spring home for both clubs.

The Mariners were 8-0 against San Diego last year and had beaten the Padres five consecutive times this spring.

An eight-run sixth inning, off loser Chad Wiesner, enabled San Diego to break the jinx. Hall, who went 5 for 5, doubled in the inning to drive in a run, left fielder Eric Bullok singled home another run and Larry See hit a two-run homer, his sixth home run of the exhibition season.

The Mariners committed their 50th error of the spring, a throwing error by infielder Eric Whitford.
