Council Meets Tonight
A request for $6.6 million in federal community development money tops the list of issues before the Spokane City Council tonight.
The biggest share of the request - $4.4 million - would be shared by community development neighborhoods throughout the city. The money is used for things such as street paving, communitypolicing substations, neighborhood cleanups and parkland acquisition.
About $1.4 million goes to lowincome housing projects, including home rehabilitation, rental assistance and land purchases.
Shelters offering programs for the homeless receive $174,000.
Last year, the city got about $6.2 million under the program.
The council’s briefing will start at 5:30 p.m. in the fifth-floor conference room of City Hall. The meeting will begin at 6 p.m. in council chambers.
