Fatal Accident

A Michigan woman died Sunday from injuries suffered Saturday in a head-on car accident south of Grangeville.

Christine Phelps, 22, of Ypsilanti, Mich., died at 2:33 p.m. at St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center in Lewiston.

The driver of the oncoming car, Kristin McKie, 36, of Moscow, was listed in fair condition at the hospital.

According to the Idaho State Police, Phelps was driving a 1987 Volkswagen GTI northbound on U.S. Highway 95 about noon Saturday. The car crossed the center line, colliding with McKie’s 1993 Geo. The crash occurred 10 miles south of White Bird.

A passenger in Phelps’ car, John Nugent, 34, of Missoula, was released after treatment at the hospital, according to a nursing supervisor.
