Car Plows Into Store, Leaving Nine Injured

From Staff And Wire Reports

A woman drove her car through the front of a department store Tuesday, injuring nine people.

Elizabeth Elfer, 69, lost control of her car, knocked down a small tree, jumped a median and traveled 100 yards before slamming through the front of a Marshall’s department store, the sheriff’s office said.

The car traveled 15 yards into the men’s sportswear section, striking eight people.

One woman was dragged under the car and was seriously injured, said sheriff’s spokesman Ott Cefkin. Five people were in stable condition at North Broward Medical Center, said spokeswoman Vicki Martin. Three other people were treated for minor injuries, Cefkin said.

Elfer, of Coconut Creek, was not injured, Cefkin said.
