Piranhas Protest Yakima’s Win In Cba Title Series

Associated Press

The Pittsburgh Piranhas, beaten in the CBA finals by the Yakima Sun Kings, want one of the games replayed because they say the player who made the winning basket was ineligible.

The Piranhas have filed a protest with the league, with the decision to be made by CBA commissioner Tom Valdiserri.

The CBA did not immediately return a phone call.

Yakima took the best-of-7 finals in six games, winning the title Monday night with a 94-92 victory.

The Piranhas contend that because Aaron Swinson of Yakima threw a punch and was ejected in the fifth game, he should not have been allowed to play in the sixth game.

Murphy said CBA rules call for any player who throws a punch to be ejected immediately and suspended from at least one game.

The Sun Kings contend that Valdiserri and league operations director Clay Moser saw the incident in the fifth game and decided to fine Swinson rather than suspend him.
