Bengals Drop Broussard

Compiled From Wire Services

The Cincinnati Bengals terminated the contract of former Washington State University running back Steve Broussard in a money-saving move.

Broussard, 28, would have been paid $612,500 for 1995. He was hurt twice last season, suffering a severe concussion on one play and temporary paralysis after being hit in another game.

It was his first season with the Bengals after four with Atlanta. He rushed for 403 yards on 94 carries and caught 34 passes for 218 yards in 13 games with Cincinnati, including three starts.

In March, the Bengals signed former San Diego Charger Eric Bieniemy to a two-year, $1 million deal. He is likely to handle third-down duties similar to those of Broussard.

William “The Refrigerator” Perry, 32, the Philadelphia Eagles’ big defensive tackle, has retired from football and is investigating a career switch to pro wrestling.

Perry was drafted by the Chicago Bears in the first round in 1985. He was shifted to the offensive side of the line and scored three rushing touchdowns for the Bears, including one in the 1986 Super Bowl victory over New England. His weight, 335 pounds and more, was often an issue.

Derrick Brooks, the 28th player selected in last month’s NFL draft, signed a four-year contract with Tampa Bay, while three other picks agreed to terms with the Buccaneers.
