Man Shoots Self By Accident

From Staff Reports

A 19-year-old Coeur d’Alene man accidentally shot himself in the leg Wednesday with a hand gun, Kootenai County Sheriff’s officials said.

Sean Michael Pooley was treated at Kootenai Medical Center and released.

Pooley and a Donald Phillips, 14, were cleaning garbage out of Pooley’s truck at about 8 p.m., according to the sheriff’s report.

The two had been target shooting earlier in the day with Pooley’s Remington .22 caliber pistol.

Pooley told deputies that he grabbed the pistol to move it out of his way and accidentally pulled the trigger.

The round hit him in his right thigh.

According to the sheriff’s report, Pooley did not know the gun was loaded. The weapon is old and takes very little pressure on the trigger to fire, the teen told deputies.
