Gary Busey Hospitalized; Drugs Seized

Associated Press

Gary Busey was in serious condition Friday from an apparent cocaine overdose after being found unconscious at home with a small amount of the drug in his shirt pocket, authorities said.

Investigators also found small amounts of other illegal drugs in Busey’s home, but he was not arrested due to his medical condition, said Los Angeles County sheriff’s Deputy Britta Tubbs.

Busey, 50, who received an Academy Award nomination in 1978 for “The Buddy Holly Story,” was admitted to Santa Monica Hospital Medical Center late Thursday.

Paramedics were called to the actor’s home by his fiancee, who found him unconscious.

His film credits include “A Star is Born,” “Carny,” “Eye of the Tiger,” “Lethal Weapon,” “Point Break,” “The Player,” “Under Siege,” and “The Firm.”
