Moyer Will Be Honored As Distinguished Alumnus

State Sen. John Moyer, M.D., will be honored as a recipient of the “Sioux Award,” the University of North Dakota’s highest honor bestowed upon distinguished alumni. Moyer is a Republican who has represented Spokane’s 3rd District in the Legislature since 1986. He is a retired obstetrician who continues to provide professional services to lowincome families in Othello. Moyer received his Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Illinois.

Capt. Daniel Lenz, son of William and Sylvia Lenz, Elk, was promoted to present rank while serving with the Army at Fort Stewart, Ga. He a 1993 graduate of Riverside High School.

Senior Airman Michael Berquist of Airway Heights has been selected as one of eight airmen from around the country to be named one of the 1995 Air National Guard Outstanding Airmen of the Year. He will now represent the Guard as he competes for the 1995 Air Force 12 Outstanding Airmen of the Year Award. He is a communications-computer systems planning and implementation craftsman and has been a member of the Washington Air National Guard since 1992.

Travis Henderson, son of Donald and Blenda Henderson, Spokane, has been promoted to specialist in the Army.

Air Force Master Sgt. John Evans, son of Esther Evans, Spokane, has been named Senior Noncommissioned Officer of the Year for the U.S. Space Command. He was selected based on exemplary performance of duties, job knowledge, leadership qualities, significant self-improvement and other accomplishments. He is a 1978 graduate of Gonzaga Preparatory School and received a master’s degree in 1994 from Colorado Christian University.

Air National Guard Senior Airman Kevin Borden, son of Gary and Iva Borden of Spokane, has graduated from the heating systems specialist course while serving at Sheppard Air Force Base, Wichita Falls, Texas. He is a 1984 graduate of East Valley High School.

Army Pvt. Sage Carli, son of Alicia Keller of Yorba Linda, Calif., and Tom Carli, Veradale, has completed a wheeled-vehicle repairer course while serving at the Aberdeen Proving Ground, Aberdeen, Md.
