Target Of Whitewater Probe To Miss Trip
President Clinton won’t be taking his longtime aide and confidant, Bruce Lindsey, with him on this week’s trip to Moscow.
White House officials confirmed last week that Lindsey is a target of investigators probing the Whitewater land deal.
Nonetheless, aides attached no special significance to his absence from the Moscow trip, pointing out that Lindsey is a frequent but not constant traveling companion of the president.
Publicly, the White House has defended Lindsey since word emerged that he is a target of the investigation, with aides reporting that Clinton is convinced Lindsey did nothing wrong.
Investigators are probing whether Lindsey, during Clinton’s 1990 gubernatorial campaign, concealed bank withdrawals by the campaign.
