Dylan Tour May Stop In Boise, Spokane But Price Tag May Be Too High For Theater In Idaho’s Capital

A Miami concert promoter wants to bring Bob Dylan to Boise in June for two shows.

But Leas Campbell, of Leas Campbell Presents, said he is thinking twice about it because, he says, rent at the Morrison Center is too expensive and there are no other suitable halls in the area.

Dylan is about to embark on a tour of intimate theaters in support of his “Bob Dylan: Unplugged” recording.

Dates between June 5-9 have been penciled in for Spokane, Boise and Salt Lake City.

That could change, though. The tour may go to Pullman or through Montana and Idaho Falls before it goes to Salt Lake City.

The problem, Campbell said, is cost. With an average ticket price of $29, the bill at the Morrison Center for rent, box office fees and credit card charges would total at least $16,800 for two days - nearly twice the cost of other 2,000-seat theaters.

Like the Morrison Center, most buildings charge a percentage of gross ticket sales. But they also put a cap on the rent once the total reaches a certain figure, Campbell said. The Morrison Center doesn’t do that.

In Salt Lake City, the 2,000-seat Capitol Theater will cost him $8,500 plus 4 percent of the gross up to $1,500 for two days.

The 2,800-seat Spokane Opera House wants $3,000 plus 3 percent of the gross for one day, he said.

A final decision is expected early this week.
