Companies Fined For Child Labor Violations

From Staff And Wire Reports

Two Spokane companies have been fined $2,400 each for violating federal child labor laws, the U.S. Department of Labor said Monday.

Henderson Roofing, 1003 S. Pines Road, was fined for employing a minor who used a power-drive stapling machine. The Burger Basket, 3628 E. Sprague, was fined for employing a minor who used a power driven meat slicing machine.

Both companies violated the federal Fair Labor Standards Act, which protects workers under age 18 from being exposed to dangerous equipment.

Henderson Roofing and Burger Basket are the first Spokane County companies in 1995 to be fined for violating child labor laws.
