Hartford’s New Owner Beats The ‘Hell’ Out Of His Team

Associated Press

A Connecticut businessman Monday rescued the CBA’s Hartford Hellcats, but said the name will have to go.

New team owner Brian Foley, citing language rules he enforces with his six children, said he will hold a contest among schoolchildren to choose a new name for the franchise.

“The word ‘hell’ is a word that’s kind of an outlawed word in our household,” said Foley, 43.

Foley on Monday bought the team from the league for an undisclosed sum. The Hartford Courant reported a sale price of about $500,000.

The Hellcats folded in February after league owners stymied Foley’s first bid to buy the team for $750,000.
