Knick Wins By Landslide
Anthony Mason’s rise from obscurity reached another peak when he was named the National Basketball Association’s Sixth Man of the Year.
Mason - who grew up in Springfield Gardens, Queens, and played in the Continental Basketball Association, U.S. Basketball League and Turkey before joining the New York Knicks in 1991 - received 47 of 105 votes. Charlotte’s Del Curry was second with 18.
The Portland Trail Blazers are making another bid to lure Arvydas Sabonis to the NBA.
The 7-foot-3 Lithuanian, the player of the year in Europe this season, was drafted by the Blazers nine years ago but has resisted the franchise’s repeated signing attempts.
