President Gave Up, Missed Pacer Rally

Associated Press

Indiana Pacers president Donnie Walsh didn’t see Reggie Miller’s two 3-pointers that triggered the dramatic finish of his team’s playoff victory over New York on Sunday.

With the Knicks ahead 105-99 and 18 seconds left, Walsh left his courtside seat and went to the locker room. “I gave up on the game and was in the locker room when Mel (Daniels, Pacers assistant) ran in and said, ‘Reggie hit two 3s and we’re tied,”’ Walsh said. “I thought he was kidding me.”

Walsh returned to the court and saw John Starks miss two free throws and then watched as Miller’s two foul shots gave Indiana a 107-105 lead with 7.5 seconds left and the margin of victory.
