Scared Speechless?

Chicago Tribune

If the thought of speaking in front of others fills you with dread, don’t despair. Try these tips from Toastmasters International to nip your anxiety:

Scope the room. Before your audience arrives, familiarize yourself with the environs. Greet and chat with people. It’s easier to speak to people you’ve met.

Actively relax. Before your speech, take a series of slow, deep breaths. Relax your facial muscles by opening your eyes and mouth wide, then closing them tight.

Trust the audience. Viewing its members as your allies will make you and them feel more comfortable. Realize that they want you to succeed.
