Spokane Airport Closes Main Runway

From Staff And Wire Reports

Residents of Spokane’s South Hill and portions of the West Plains, Grand View and Windsor areas will soon be seeing an increase in commercial jet traffic.

Beginning May 15, air traffic from the main runway at Spokane International Airport will be diverted to a secondary east-west runway due to a construction project that will extend to midOctober.

Spokane International has closed the main runway to resurface the main runway, adjust more than 589 in-pavement high intensity runway lights, and reconstruct the runway’s storm drain system.

Ninety percent of the $2.6 million project is funded through a federal grant from the Airport Improvement Program, with the remainder derived from airport generated revenues, airport officials said.

Inland Asphalt Company of Spokane is the project’s prime contractor and Taylor Engineering of Spokane provided design and engineering services.
