G-Prep Takes Gsl District Title With Win Over Mead

Mead may own all the Greater Spokane League’s regular-season titles, but for the second straight season, the Gonzaga Prep Bullpups own the GSL district crown.

The Bullpups beat Mead 2-1 on the Panthers’ home field Tuesday.

With the win, the Bullpups earn the GSL’s No. 1 seed to regionals and will play Pasco.

That game will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday at G-Prep. Mead will travel to Kamiakin Saturday at 1 p.m. at Hanford.

Mead jumped out to a 1-0 lead, but G-Prep’s Joe Ascolese knotted the score off a crossing pass at the 30-minute mark.

In the second half, G-Prep’s Ben Lambert got a header which he bounced off a Mead defender for the game-winning goal.
